QUT Starters is a QUT affiliated student society formed in 2014 by students who are deeply passionate about disruption and innovation.
Our objective is to create a recognised community for people from all disciplines to collaborate and put their studies into action through entrepreneurship. We do this by connecting both students and non-students with the wider entrepreneurial community, teaching people how to turn their ideas to reality.
Our hope is to inspire this young and enthusiastic community to highlight challenges in their chosen field and identify actioning possible solutions.

Below are the project lead roles you can nominate for. If there are a high number of applicants for a role, you will need to pitch as to why you should be the project lead and if you have any proposed innovative spin. (Nomination form is at the bottom of page)
Social Media Manager
Manage social media marketing campaigns for each project run by QUT Starters with the assistance of the relevant project lead. You will be required to create, curate, and manage all published content (images, video and written) on our various social media platforms - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
What will you get out of it? You will gain experience in intense growth of an established brand. You’ll build relationships with local and international growth hackers. You’ll understand modern analytics driven marketing tactics.
Project ASSISTANCE – Startup Hatch
What is Startup Hatch? Startup Hatch is a month long student run accelerator that provides students with the tools, networks and understanding of what it takes to become an entrepreneur. Starting with a Launch event, followed by a series of workshops, and ending with a Showcase. Students are invited to take an idea or startup through rapid development.
What do you need to do? As project lead, you are required to organise and manage the program. The President and Vice-President will also be active in assisting you in this role. The current executive will also provide a blueprint of the program so you are not left in the dark.
Your other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Organising room bookings for each workshop, including venues for the Launch and Showcase;
Catering at workshops and events;
Liaising with our sponsors; being QUT Creative Enterprises Australia, QUT bluebox, QUT Foundry and Bank of Queensland;
Lining up facilitators for content, roundtables and keynotes;
Be a key touchpoint for rapidly developing founders and startups;
Be super enthusiastic with the startups you will be helping go from idea to reality!
How much time do you need to dedicate to this? The program will run from o-week Semester 1 throughout March (till Week 5). It is important that you are available during the summer holidays to begin organising the program, and important that you dedicate losing 2 nights a week to the various workshops. However, after March, you will have the rest of the year to enjoy everything else QUT Starters has to offer!
What will you get out of it? You will gain experience in event management, build relationships throughout Queensland’s startup ecosystem, and learn about the startup process yourself. The Startup Hatch process is extremely rewarding for everybody involved, and has established itself to be Brisbane’s premier student program.
Project ASSISTANCE - Disrupting Law
What is Disrupting Law? Disrupting Law is a hackathon / startup weekend run by QUT Starters in partnership with The Legal Forecast. The event runs over a weekend at the beginning of August, bringing together students and industry professionals from law, IT, business, and design to collaboratively find new ways of undertaking traditional legal tasks.
What do you need to do? As project lead, you are required to be the point of call and main representative of QUT Starters, managing the relationship between QUT Starters and The Legal Forecast. Your primary responsibility is to bring the startup enthusiasm to the project.
Your other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Managing room bookings for the event;
Liaising with QUT Faculty of Law;
Attending fortnightly meetings with The Legal Forecast leading up to the event (June-July);
Be super enthusiastic over the weekend!
How much time do you need to dedicate to this? We will start to organise this project in the beginning of 2019, with July being a particularly busy month.
What will you get out of it? You will gain experience in event management, meet and liaise with top tier law firms and tech companies from around Australia and overseas. Disrupting Law is an incredibly inspiring weekend, where you will make new friends and gain a professional advantage.
Project Lead - Elevator Pitches
What is Elevator Pitches? It is an elevator pitch event, wherein startups actually pitch in an elevator. The pitch will be a 1 minute high intensity pitch that is filmed and uploaded on QUT Starters social media which will be released over the course of semester 1.

hat do you need to do? You will need to be available over the summer holiday period to organise the pitching startups and organise one weekend with EY where the filming takes place. We will be able to put you in contact with startups we think would suit the project.
How much time do I need to dedicate to this? This project will not be hugely time intensive, however, it is it important that you have capacity to organise the filming to take place early in 2019.
Manager of Social Events
What social events do we hold? QUT Starters generally holds a Beers & Pitches event once a semester, wherein we put on a bar tab at the Botanic Bar and people get up and informally pitch an idea. We also have a christmas party every year so members can get to know each other and talk about the year that’s passed.
What do you need to do? Organise the venues, marketing and catering for each event. You will also have free reign to come up with new social events for us to put on!
How much time do you need to dedicate to this? This is not a hugely time intensive job for any one part of the year, however, it is important that you organise at least one social event per semester.
